Horia Stamatu (1912-1989) was a poet, journalist, essayist and translator (from San Juan de la Cruz, Jean Cocteau, M. Heidegger). After 1941 he lived in exile (Paris, Madrid, Freiburg) and wrote in a few languages, including Romanian. The present book is the first to analyse his journalism. We have deciphered the code of two Horia Stamatu journalists: the first wrote in the Buna Vestire – Annunciation (1938-1941), the official newspaper of the Legionary Movement of Greater Romania; the second is the author of articles and essays written in exile (we have documented our work in the Romanian Library of Freiburg, Germany). We have also analysed the author’s correspondence (1968-1989) with Sanda Stolojan. We perceived Horia Stamatu the publicist sine ira et studio. Our main areas of interest were the truth and the equilibrium of his ideas, albeit at times only metaphorical. In the words of Heraclitus – he who digs for gold works hard and finds very little.
