Reflections on the Gambia Field Force and Barracks Life

The story in this book is non- fiction. The book provides historical knowledge and insights into the evolution of the Gambia Field Force in 1957, up to its disbandment in 1984. Worthy to note was the critical role that the Field Force played in the 1981 abortive coup against the government of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara. The role played by Senegal and loyalists Gambian troops in restoring constitutional order and its attendant consequences are adequately highlighted, notably the birth of the Senegambia Confederation, the Gambia National Army and the Gambia National Gendarmerie. The activities that characterized Barracks life including sports, drills, parades, regimentation and order are captured adequately.
