Salmonella Kentucky is currently a menace in the livestock and food industry worldwide, causing economic losses by limiting international livestock trade and propagating multidrug drug resistant (MDR) determinants in human and animals. Experts in recent times through research and surveys have identified multidrug resistant strains of Salmonella Kentucky that originated from Africa and have been transmitted to other continents raising significant public health concern. In preparation of this handbook, the author was motivated to improve public awareness of this silent bug raving the African continent where poverty and lack of proper disease monitoring and surveillance is systemic. The author also brings out the risk associated with the acquisition of MDR Salmonella Kentucky, especially in individuals with immunocompromised diseases which are numerous and prevalent on the continent. He further tried to intervene by designing experimental live attenuated and inactivated vaccines for poultry as a prelude of modalities than can be applied in the mitigation its spread.
