SPROUTING FASCISM OR NATIONALISM IN INDIA

This research explores whether India is experiencing a rise in fascism or merely an intensification of nationalism, focusing on the BJP and its ideological affiliate, the RSS. The study contrasts nationalism’s positive and negative forms, emphasizing how extreme nationalism can lead to exclusionary practices. The BJP, influenced by RSS’s Hindutva ideology, promotes a Hindu-centric nation, marginalizing minorities like Muslims and Dalits. The research identifies fascist traits in India, such as glorifying a mythic past, using propaganda, suppressing dissent, and targeting minorities. It also highlights the increasing violence against Muslims and the state's control over media. The manuscript suggests that these developments mirror historical fascist regimes, with regional and global implications, especially regarding Kashmir and neighboring countries. It concludes by urging international action to protect human rights and preserve democratic values in India, warning of the potential rise of fascism if unchecked.
