VOICES OF RESILIENCE: MIGRANT CHILDREN IN CAPE TOWN SCHOOLS

Voices of Resilience: Migrant Children in Cape Town Schools explores how French-speaking migrant children adapt to English-medium primary schools in Cape Town. Through a qualitative study of three children over four weeks, the book examines their academic, social, and emotional experiences, focusing on English literacy acquisition, coping strategies, and challenges. Findings reveal that formal language instruction alone is inadequate; tailored teaching and parental involvement are crucial for migrant children’s success. The study advocates for inclusive educational policies that recognize and support diverse migrant experiences, urging action for more equitable learning environments. It is aimed at educators, policymakers, and researchers, and suggests further longitudinal studies to deepen understanding and inform practice.
