Technology has generally impacted significantly the lives of individuals and has, in some instances, been associated with changes in the course of history. In the process of explaining the relationship between technology and society, several theories have emerged within the disciplines of Science and Technology Studies and Communication Studies. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) like the Internet, telephony, television, radio, etc. are unavoidably ubiquitous in the information society and many scholars have become mindful of the social effects of particularly these technologies. Also, a wide consensus has emerged on the potential of information and communication technologies to promote economic growth, combat poverty, and facilitate the integration of developing countries into the global economy. This book explores the pivotal role of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation (STEMI) education in the socio-economic development of a country. Mathematics education is the mainstay of STEMI education. The book uses the South African mathematics education system as a case study.
