The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has, among its natural resources, a large number of edible insects, which represent an advantageous food resource for local populations. We propose here to study, as a first step, the advantages and disadvantages related to the consumption of edible insects. On the other hand, we will endeavour to study the history of this practice in the DRC, through a review of the different species consumed, as well as harvesting methods and culinary preparations. Then we will see what the current situation is, analysing what the advantages and disadvantages of breeding insects may be. Finally, we will try to anticipate the remaining actions to lead to an optimal future situation in this practice in the DRC.
