The South African Department of Basic Education introduced the Special Condonation Dispensation policy for learners in the Senior Phase in 2016. The purpose of this study is investigating how condonation influences the promotion of senior-phase mathematics learners to the Further Education and Training (FET) Phase. The research suggests that condonation has a negative impact on learners' mathematics performance in Grade 12 and they need assistance to improve their achievement levels. The foundational skills weren't mastered by these learners, even though they advanced to Grade 12, resulting in most performing poorly. Academic support is crucial for condoned learners to address this issue. Conducting an empirical review of the phenomenon under investigation was made possible by the social constructivist theory, providing a framework. Condoned learners are at risk of dropping out for gaps in knowledge and low pass rates. As a result, each learner who is condoned needs an Individual Support Plan with various strategies, tailored to their learning needs. An academic support program should be provided to condoned mathematics learners during the FET Phase as recommended by the study.
